Hockey, Fireworks and Poetry on 'Super Saturday'

Posted on: 08/11/2022

The children have named Saturday the 5th November 'Super Saturday' at Maidwell due to the excitement it generates within the pupils....and our parents! Visitors arrived after lunch and enjoyed the buzz of the House Hockey Matches that were fiercely competitive and saw some very close matches, victory finally being clinched by Ash for the Seniors and Beech for the Juniors.

Following a much-needed cup of tea there was large audience for our yearly Poetry Competition. This year the theme ‘The Senses’ produced some very impressive poems from Year 4 - Year 8. Thank you to our Adjudicator this year, Mrs Nicola Borman, Head of English at Stowe and our Head of English Tamsin Guard for, once again, organising such a highlight of our school calendar. Pictured are the Winners and Runners-Up from each year group who read their poems to a large audience of parents and children. Particular congratulations to our Junior Winner; Seb Rendall, our Senior Winner; Molly Elson and the Best Performance went to Naevia Bracegirdle.

After supper everyone wrapped up and headed outside for a fantastic fireworks  and bonfire. Children, parents and visitors were thrilled by a wonderful display before being treated to toffee apples, warming hot chocolate and hot dogs.
