Weekends

WEEKENDS

Weekends at Maidwell Hall are packed with fun and excitement, as well as time for pupils to relax and take a break.

On Saturday mornings, all pupils have a full timetable of lessons. In the afternoon, there are often sports fixtures. Pupils not involved in matches will have games sessions, covering a full range of sports.

After the scheduled sports events, pupils enjoy the great Maidwell tradition of “muckabout” – when they are free to pursue their own activities in the school grounds. Pupils may choose to carry on playing sports, or venture into the wilderness area to explore. It is a wonderful time for children to use their imaginations, climb trees, play on the swings or zip wires, or make up their own games.

On Saturday evenings, pupils may watch a film or play games. We also put on special events throughout the year, which could include discos, bingo, barbecues, marshmallow toasting around the fire pit, and a host of other activities at different times of year.

Sunday mornings allow our full boarders time to get up later than usual and they often come down in their dressing gowns and pyjamas to enjoy the best breakfast of the week – a full English breakfast prepared in our kitchens. At 10.00am, we all attend church together, and members of our Church Choir perform an anthem for the congregation.

After church, there’s time to relax, read and play. Pupils can play outdoors in the summer, or enjoy table tennis, table football, snooker and other indoor games throughout the year.

Sunday lunch is a lovely family-style occasion. If they wish to do so, day pupils are welcome to come and enjoy Sunday lunch at school, before taking part in Sunday afternoon activities. These vary from week to week, but could include trips to local places of interest, House competitions or a range of other extra-curricular activities.
