  • Form II (Year 7) had a fantastic time at The National Civil War Centre earlier this week. The children dressed up and learned to fire muskets. One of the boys volunteered to have his leg 'amputated', much to the delight of his friends, particularly noticing the rather blunt instruments that would have been used. Charles the Ist was also tried and executed, by a rather fearsome jury and executioner. However, seeing one particularly brave pupil dress up as Prince Rupert and his hunting poodle 'Boye' was definitely a highlight! #maidwellhall #maidwellcommunity

This brilliant Maidwell tradition sees the four houses go head to head across the year groups to see who can run and flip their pancakes the fastest. Congratulations to Ash who were victorious, but judging by the very loud cheering, an enormous amount of fun was had by all. Thank you to Mr Jenkinson for all his organising and our gappies for their judging of pancake flips! #maidwellhall #maidwellcommunity

  • Last weekend we played our annual game of Convoy, which is a game unique to Maidwell Hall. The rules can be a little complicated, but the children are all experts! It's always played on a January afternoon in a large field behind the school, it is a brilliant team game that involves a lot of running around and mud. Given that it's based on World War II convoys that protected allied merchant shipping from U Boat attack, it's a great way to give the pupils lots of fresh air...and teach them some history into the bargain. #maidwellhall #maidwellcommunity

Our younger guests arrived with their PJ’s and teddies ready to stay on Friday night, they were soon very excited to be supporting their houses in the House General Knowledge Final, followed by ‘smores in the Dining Room and Christmas cartoons in the Library. There were many bedtime stories, when they ‘may’ have persuaded our house parents and matrons to read just a couple more than they have at home! On Saturday evening, our older boarders enjoyed a silent disco, which is a first at Maidwell and was extremely popular. A definite highlight for the children were the very special dance moves from our GAP team, matrons and Mr Linnecor! On Sunday, we had church as usual, followed by a whole school Christmas Concert for all children and parents.... and then zorbing in the afternoon for the boarders! One boarder said “this is the most fun activity we've ever done at school!”. Thank you to our amazing boarding team for making this such a great weekend for the children #maidwellhall #maidwellcommunity

Even our Pre-Prep took part in the Cross Country, trying their very best for their house, whilst being cheered on by their peers. On Saturday girls and boys from Form VI- Form I all got enthusiastically involved in the house rugby, for many of the girls it was the first time. Congratulations to Ash! Who emerged victorious from the weekend, but it was wonderful to see all the children putting so much effort and enthusiasm into both events.
