Music and Drama Productions
We have a full school concert during our annual Open Day every year, as well as the very popular spring Concert where as many children as possible are involved. In addition, the choir performs at our carol service at Christmas and sings in our local church to pupils and parents every Sunday.
Roughly two thirds of the school play at least one musical instrument. Any instrument can be taught by our Director of Music or our team of peripatetic teachers. Ensemble groups play in our concerts and there are additional mini performance opportunities to the school throughout the year. Children are encouraged to take grade exams when they are ready.
The highlight of Maidwell's Autumn term calendar is the acclaimed annual school production, where the philosophy is to create a performance to rival that of any prep or indeed senior school in the country. Our productions see the vast majority of the school involved, with 2017’s The Wizard of Oz seeing 98% of the school either acting, busy back stage or involved in the technical side. Recent productions have included: Romeo & Juliet, Oliver!, The Lion the Witch & The Wardrobe and The Wizard of Oz.
The School Revue at the end of the Summer Term is always a highlight of our drama season. The leavers, other intrepid volunteers and members of staff put together some light hearted entertainment for the benefit of the school, and plenty of acting and creative talent emerges. It causes much hilarity for the whole school and crucially parents are not invited!
Forms IV and III also put on either a whole play or a part of a play to the school. They have the opportunity to wear costumes, wigs and props as well as being sure to learn their lines! The evening Drama Activity is also very popular with form II, where putting on a play is the focus.
