Pre-Prep Curriculum & Forest School
Our thriving Pre-Prep is housed in a separate building from the upper school, giving the younger children comfort and security. It is there that experienced classroom teachers foster a love of learning and lay solid educational foundations in reading, writing and mathematics. Through the delivery of non-core subjects, such as Art, DT, PSHE, Science, History, Geography and ICT, the children are encouraged to think creatively and develop strong enquiring minds. The Pre-Prep children benefit greatly from our subject specialist teachers for Music, French, PE, Games and Swimming, including a weekly Ballet lesson led by Miss Beth from the Northamptonshire School of Dance, and they enjoy these specialist lessons in our beautiful old school building.
As part of their curriculum, our children are able to explore the very extensive grounds at Maidwell Hall, including the gardens, woodland and fields. We believe that all children benefit both physically and mentally from spending as much time as possible outdoors and we are lucky to have such special grounds. We nurture a love of nature in the Pre-Prep by running weekly afternoon Forest School sessions. These are directed by Mrs Addison, who is a trained Forest School Leader. By working outdoors, the children are given opportunities to learn how to work as part of a team, assess risk and problem solve, particularly when learning how to build dens and make campfires!
The Pre-Prep curriculum is enhanced by many exciting annual events, such as the Christmas Nativity play, Pancake Day Races, and Sports Day, to name but a few. The children also enjoy going on a variety of trips designed to complement their learning, which include visits to Leicester Botanic Garden, Mini Meadows Farm, Rock UK, Bugtopia, and Rockingham Castle.
