ICT
Information Computer Technology plays a large part in the academic and social life of the school. ICT offers teachers and pupils a different environment in which to learn. Hands-on experiences and active involvement all contribute to the motivation and enhancement of the learning experience.
Our aim is to be able to provide
- a broad range of experiences of computer applications both in and out of lessons;
- ICT skills which will give the child the confidence and knowledge to use ICT in their chosen public school and into adulthood;
- a willingness by pupils to explore new facilities and be open-minded as to their potential benefits.
Structured ICT lessons are taught to all pupils throughout the school. Junior classes have two lessons a week and will develop basic core skills throughout the year. Younger pupils are introduced to a variety of programmes and are taught from an early age the basics of touch typing. This work continues further up the school whilst pupils are working towards the ISEB Certificate of Achievement in ICT.
All pupils have a school email address and find it an invaluable tool to contact friends and family. We offer an open policy of use and children have access to the computers throughout the day. Pupils are encouraged to work independently in their free time as well as using the secure networked Internet facility to look up items of interest.
We are committed to updating our ICT knowledge and systems on a regular basis. All departments within the school recognise the importance of using ICT skills during their lessons and are constantly updating teaching methods to make the most of new technology. Wireless Internet, Interactive whiteboards and projects around the school all go towards making the use of technology accessible to all. |
