Match Reports

v Winchester House
Maidwell lost 7 - 22

This was our first match and we started off very well with both forwards and backs taking the ball on stongly and with purpose. Winchester House are a well-drilled team who made some outstanding tackles. Their defense and organisation saw them through in the end, winning the match 7 - 22. There is plenty for us to do but there are signs that we could be a useful team with one or two more sessions under our belt.

Maidwell Man of the Match for his excellent work at the breakdown and superb tackling - Lochie Payne.

v Stoneygate 1st XV
Maidwell won 60 - 0

Maidwell played some good running rugby in this rather one-sided match. Credit to the Stoneygate boys for sticking in the game.

Man of the match for his excellent ball carrying, scrummaging and tackling – Sam Holland Bosworth.

v Oundle
Maidwell Won 22 - 0

This was Maidwell’s best performance to date with both Forwards and Backs working well together to take the ball up hard. The quick rucking and recycling of the ball enabled the backs run some good lines and score a number of quality tries.

Man of the Match – Charlie Bygott for his strong running and robust tackling.

v Spratton
Maidwell won 7 - 0

What a game this was, two very competitive teams played some outstanding rugby. Both sides showed immense commitment both in attack and defence and for most of the game there was nothing to split the sides. A fantastic blind side break saw the Captain  Archie Cleverly score in the corner. Tom Henderson struck the ball beautifully from the touch line to secure the 2 points to make it 7 – 0.

Man of the Match – This was a whole squad effort where all the team played fantastically well.

v Bilton Grange
Drawn 10 - 10

This was not a vintage performance by Maidwell against a very competitive Bilton side. Their pack competed for everything and disrupted out ball at every opportunity. The draw was probably a fair result to both teams in the end.

Maidwell Man of the Match -  Arthur Fenwicke Clennell for his solid work in the rucks.

v Oakham
Maidwell lost 10-12

This was an outstanding game which saw two talented sides pit their wits against each other. Oakham started the stronger and scored two trys, the second of which was very soft and saw their number 8 run through some poor tackling. Maidwell came out the stronger in the second half and scored two well made trys. Unfortunately the difference in the end was the place kicking but all in all a thoroughly enjoyable spectacle.

Maidwell Man of the match Charles Granby for his excellent tackling and strong running.

v Witham Hall
Maidwell Hall won 22 – 0

This was a tremendous performance by Maidwell which saw two good sides pit their wits against each other in a hard fought match. The Maidwell forwards produced plenty of Ball for our Backs who made the most of their opportunities.

Two tries from Alexander Webb earned him the Man on the Match award.

v Akeley Wood
Maidwell 22  Akeley Wood 7

Maidwell played some great rugby against a spirited Akeley side. I was delighted with the continuity Of play throughout the match.

Well done to Lochie Payne for his Man of the Match performance.

v Swanbourne House
Maidwell 10  Swanbourne House 0

What a great final performance from the boys in a hard fought match away at Swanbourne. I was delighted with the way the boys played from start to finish with Backs and Forwards working together to play some fantastic rugby. A great way to finish the season, really well one.

Man of the match for his rampaging runs - Henry Pegley
