Wing Commander Owens has recently returned from a tour of duty with the RAF in Afghanistan. He visited us to give us a very interesting lecture on the role of the RAF and other arms of the services in Afghanistan. He provided an excellent power point presentation during which we were invited to imagine that we were going to Afghanistan to serve with the RAF. He showed us all the different roles that we would fulfil, and in particular the humanitarian work that we would do with the local population. He showed us lots of very interesting photos.
This was a very good lecture and it opened our eyes to the poor state of Afghanistan and its great need for aid. It also showed us how the lives of the people have improved since the Taliban regime was overthrown. After the lecture we were allowed to have RAF caps, medals and sashes provided by Wing Cdr Owens. |
