In the second week of this term we were greatly honoured to welcome to the school Andrew Motion, Poet Laureate and eminent old boy of Maidwell. He spent the main part of the day with us and Forms I and II each had the chance to hear about his life and work as Poet Laureate, to hear him read his poetry and to ask him questions. The Head Boy and Vice Head Boy gave him a tour of the school and enjoyed hearing all about how it was in his day (the good bits and the bad bits)! After lunch with the school he then spoke briefly to all the boys and staff and read two of his poems, including The Midnight Walk which describes a night-time excursion that he undertook when a boy at the school; all were warned not to attempt to do the same thing themselves! It was a most memorable day for us and it was pleasing for us that Professor Motion enjoyed himself and left with happy memories of his visit. |
