Cross-Country Running 2011
Spratton Hall Relay
Monday, 24th January
This well run event is always targeted as a very good training run. It is slightly too short for us as a cross-country outfit but never the less a very enjoyable event. A total of 13 schools took part with each team having four runners in it. The results are as follows and in particular I was very impressed with the girls.
Maidwell Hall Junior Boys 5th
Maidwell Hall Junior Girls 3rd
Maidwell Hall Senior Boys 4th
IAPS North Midlands Championship
Tuesday, 8th February
This was the first time we have ran in this event for some time. Although we had injuries it was a great effort for both the senior Boys and Junior Girls teams.

Swanbourne Chase
Thursday, 17th February
Always a testing course this one but with sports scholarship trials and illness / injuries the senior team was never really going to challenge and retain last year’s trophy. The junior boys found the course rather taxing also. But yet again the girls team won a trophy and Gold Medals.

This was a very special day and history for individual runners and Maidwell Hall was made.
The Senior Boys team pulled off a massive result against many far larger schools in the event. As a team they were very focussed and their effort was exceptional. Both junior teams didn’t really show their potential but on what is a testing course it certainly widened a few eyes. What was great was to see the girls having won so much look really upset but determined to put it right at the chase.

Maidwell Chase
Thursday 10th March
Only four days after the testing National event the chase was always going to be hard to win. The senior boys had given their all only a few days before and had not yet fully recovered. The girls looked determined and strong mentally. The junior boys also looked the same as if they hadn’t done themselves justice the week before.

Considering burn out the seniors did awesome on the day but what a surprise the junior boys were. All a year under age means that big expectations are expected for next season. The girls were again flying and put their National mishaps behind them.
Maidwell Chase
Thursday, 11th March, 2010
This was another good day for running. The ground was firm which helped there to be some very fast times. The Juniors ran really well and in particular Archie Cleverly and Lochie Payne who finished 1st and 2nd respectively. Toby Phillips and George Pease also performed to their maximum and their placings were 7th and 13th. With a team score of 23 we thought we had won but a strong Lincroft team just pipped us at the end.

The Senior race was again a close affair and the Maidwell team did well; in particular James Cleverly, Ben Clarke, Edmund Wells and George Holborow. Again, only a few points saw Maidwell pipped into second place.

National Prep School Cross Country Championship
at Malvern College - Sunday, 28th February, 2010
The Junior team were slightly depleted with Lochie Payne moving up to strengthen the Senior team for this event. A fantastic effort by Archie Cleverly saw him be crowned winner and individual National Champion at under 11. The team did very well under the circumstances and finished 4th overall but 2nd in the separate Small Schools' competition. This was a pleasing result.
The Senior team found the going initially tough but made good gains I the second half of the race. They also finished 4th in the National Championships but won the Small Schools' trophy. A small school is rated as 250 or below.
