v Bedford
Maidwell 4 Bedford 0
The 3rd XI got off to an impressive start by defeating Bedford by 4 goals to 0. The whole team contributed to some enterprising football and all the goals were the result of sustained pressure throughout the match. Angus Norman scored 2 goals, with James Phillips and Toby Duncan netting one a piece. Nigel II had an impressive debut and is looking forward to as renowned a career as his predecessor Nigel the Original.
v Wellingborough
Maidwell 7 Wellingborough 0
This was another impressive performance from the mighty 3rds. The whole team played as a unit and the passing was crisp and precise creating many goal scoring opportunities. The goals were shared amongst 4 players with Angus Norman, James Macdonald Buchanan, and George Holborow each netting a brace. Harry McGrath added the seventh. Nigel remains defiant.
v Stoneygate
Maidwell 4 Stoneygate 0
This extra fixture was reduced to a 7-a-side match at the request of the visitors. The wide open spaces of the Colts’ pitch made for a free flowing match with plenty of precision passing and attempts on goal. Maidwell did score 4 goals but missed a bus load of chances throughout the match as a result of too much elaborate play in the box. Shots at goal would have been a more effective option in most cases. The 4 goals scored were all as a result of good team play. Toby Duncan grabbed a brace, with James Macdonald Buchanan and William Crane scoring one a piece. Nigel has yet to enter the Maidwell net.
v Grade Dieu
Maidwell 10 Grace Dieu 1
This was an impressive performance from a depleted 3rd XI as 7 members of the 4th XI played. This was our first visit to Grace Dieu and it was a pleasure to see some grass after leaving the snow behind at Maidwell. The pitch we played on was in fantastic condition and contributed to an open flowing match. The 3 forwards shared the 10 goals between them with George Holborow scoring 5 in his new go fast boots, Angus Norman collected a hat trick and Ben Clarke bagged a brace. These 3 players received wonderful service from the rest of the side and all should be congratulated on a wonderful performance. Nigel made a surprise substitute appearance at the start of the second half. This was his first and possibly last away match.
v Akeley Wood
Maidwell 3 Akeley Wood 2
This was an action packed match that left poor Nigel quite breathless. Akeley Wood played some very good football and the Big Bus defence and Tom Buxton the all action goalie had to work overtime. The visitors took the lead with an excellent goal. James Macdonald-Buchanan took his goal tally to 3 for the season when he equalised with a very good left foot curling shot. Maidwell then went ahead through golden boots George Holborow who netted his 8th of the season. The Visitors struck back to draw level to give us the most exciting finish in the history of the mighty 3rds. With one minute remaining William Farr pushed up for a corner and drove a mighty right footed dribbler towards the goal. The crowd held their breath as Nigel bobbed and weaved his way over the line for a magnificent winner! Nigel’s boys remain victorious.
v Wellingborough
Maidwell (3rds & 4ths) 1 Wellingborough 4
To all intense and purposes, this was effectively a 4th XI fixture as the Maidwell team contained eight 4th XI players. Maidwell took the lead through a well taken strike by Olu Olowogboye but then squandered many chances and ran out losers by 4 goals to 1. |
