v Spratton
Maidwell 3 Spratton 0
The boys played a great game and it was a very enjoyable start to the season for them. Maidwell took the lead in the first half with William Shields-Porterfield scoring. In the second half Maidwell continued to move the ball around creating numerous chances and scoring off two of these with Alfie Farr and Harry Simpson claiming one goal each. Some hard defending by the boys at the end of the match ensured that Maidwell still had a clean sheet when the full time whistle was blown. A great start to the season, however plenty of opportunities for the boys to improve.
v Akeley Wood
Maidwell 0 Akeley 0
Maidwell played well but were unable to convert some fairly good chances. They lacked a little cutting edge in the opposition penalty area today but all in all they had the upper hand throughout the match. They impressed with their commitment and team spirit.
v Wellingborough
Maidwell 5 Wellingborough 0
This was a fantastic team effort played in testing conditions on a soft pitch. Maidwell had the best of possession as they were always strong in the tackle, using the ball wisely to set up many goal scoring opportunities. The final score of 5-0 could easily have been doubled such were the chances in front of goal. Alfie Farr scored a well deserved hat trick, Timothy Mcnaughton capped a very strong performance with a well taken goal, and the Wellingborough defence conceded an own goal.
v Stoneygate
Maidwell 2 Stoneygate 0
This team’s excellent run continued with a hard fought win. They are yet to concede a goal this season and it was easy to see why as defenders Harry Salmons, George Plant and Leo Chilton-Faull cleared their lines effectively time after time and behind them Alex Saunders did not put a foot wrong in goal. His kicking was much better today, too. All over the pitch the boys closed down and pressurised their opponents while Alfie Farr and Harry Simpson always looked the likelier to score of the two forward lines. Will Shields-Porterfield scored in the first-half with a long range effort and Alfie settled it late on with an expertly taken penalty.
v Beachborough
Maidwell 1 Beachborough 0
The Bs secured yet another positive result on a boggy pitch in the snow, extending their incredible run of clean sheets to five. Alfie Farr converted Harry Simpson’s slide-rule pass to give them a half-time lead. After the break the home side fought tooth and nail to cling on to their slender advantage. There were particularly gutsy performances from subs Ralph Phillips and George Plant whilst Peter Wang made his first appearance and did really well. Keeper Alex Saunders was equal to anything Beachborough could throw at him – well done, boys.
v Spratton Hall
Maidwell 3 Spratton 3 This was one of the most exciting games of school football that I've ever seen. Despite being down at half time, our boys kept on attacking and counter-attacking right up until the final whistle. Alfie Farr and Will Shields-Porterfield had an excellent centre forward partnership. Leo has the makings of a reliable and sturdy defender and Peter Wang did remarkably well in this, his first ever match. It was so close to a win that it felt like one at the finish with so many shots on goal that almost tipped the balance. Well played boys!
v Swanbourne House
Maidwell 3 Swanbourne 0
For this match the Swanbourne team travelled all the way to Maidwell for an excellent game. It was a very exciting first half with both sides trading shots on goal, before Alfie Farr opened up the scoring on the back of a beautiful ball kicked by Harry Salmons. Some more good play by the Maidwell boys set Alfie up for his second goal soon after, finishing the first half with a score of 2-0 to Maidwell Hall.
The second half started off just as quick as the first with both Maidwell and Swanbourne having some very close calls in goal before the whole Maidwell frontline got a touch on the ball to set Alfie up for his third goal of the match. In the final stages of the match, Maidwell almost conceded a few goals which were only stopped because of the effort put in by the whole team in defence. A special mention must go to the quality of teamwork and sportsmanship from the Maidwell and Swanbourne team throughout the match.
v The Grove
Maidwell 0 The Grove 0
For this weeks U9B match, Maidwell were able to play on their home turf against The Grove. It was a great game of football with both teams very closely matched. In both halves, the two teams traded shots on goal with some very close calls for both sides. The final few minutes were very heated as Maidwell Hall and The Grove struggled to get the match-winning goal which neither team were able to secure. Hearty congratulations must go to the U9Bs, who were able to finish this season undefeated.
