Match Reports

v Swanbourne

Maidwell 116 for 3 [lost by15 runs]

Swanbourne 131 for 1

This was a match that could, and should have been won. The home side outplayed us in all departments and reached 131 for the loss of only 1 wicket in their 20 overs. Average bowling and shoddy early season fielding gifted too many runs to the talented Swanbourne batsmen. Rory Peppiatt (40) and Archie Cleverly (56) put on 110 for the second wicket but Maidwell fell agonisingly 15 runs short of victory.

v Wellingborough

Maidwell 117 for 6  [Won by 30 runs] Wellingborough 87 all out

This was a much better team effort and showed considerable improvement from last week’s efforts. Maidwell won the toss and batted on a well-prepared but slowish wicket. Rory Peppiatt top scored with 21 and Henry Pegley contributed 18 towards the total of 117 for 6 after 20 overs. Tight bowling and excellent fielding restricted the home side and saw Wellinborough bowled out for 87. The wickets were shared with George Pease taking 2 for 6 in his 3 overs. Pleasingly, there were also 3 well taken run outs, showing the improved level of fielding.

v Stoneygate

Maidwell 179 for 2 [Won by 56 runs] Stoneygate  123 for 8

Maidwell won the toss and batted first on a fast pitch and lightening fast outfield. Tom Henderson and Alex Palmer dominated the bowling putting on 121 for the first wicket. Alex scored 71 and Tom 62 not out. Rory Peppiatt scored a quick 25 not out to leave the visitors chasing a total of 180 to win. Everyone got a bowl and although Stoneygate got to 123 it was a comfortable win. William Holborow took 2 for 12 and Archie Cleverly 2 for 5.

vs Spratton
Maidwell 151 for 2 Spratton 152 for  4

This match was a run fest which saw Maidwell fail to defend a respectable 151 scored in their 20 overs. Once again Tom Henderson carried his bat scoring 34 not out. Rory Peppiatt scored a hard hitting 65 not out, his second 50 of the season. Needless to say, the bowling was poor and Spratton batted well to win the match with the loss of 4 wickets.

vs Bedford
Maidwell 129 for 7 Bedford  176 for 5

Bedford batted first on a fast bouncy pitch and reached 176 for 5 in their 20 overs. Maidwell batted well but could only reach 129 for 7 in their allocated overs. Tom Henderson scored 26 and Sam Holland-Bosworth remained unbeaten on 28.

vs Beachborough
Maidwell 64 for 6  Beachborough  63 all out

This was a comfortable win away at Beachborough. The home side batted first and were bowled out for 63. George Pease was the pick of the bowlers with 4 wickets. A quick fire 25 from Alexander Palmer saw Maidwell win inside 14 overs.

vs Great Houghton
Maidwell 74 for 4 Great Houghton  73 all out

Great Houghton elected to bat first on a fast bouncy wicket and lightening fast outfield. Excellent bowling and catching saw them all out for 73, with Sam Holland-Bosworth taking 4 for 17.

The revised batting order quickly knocked off the runs with Henry Pegley top scoring with 24.

vs Bilton Grange
Maidwell 192 for 3 Bilton 83 all out

This was a timed match played on a very dry, fast pitch. Bilton won the toss and put Maidwell into bat. A powerful batting display led by Rory Peppiatt with 62 not out and Archie Cleverly with 51, enabled Maidwell to declare on 192 for 3. Bilton never threatened that total and were bowled out for 83. Sam Boscawen bowled beautifully taking 3 for 6, Sam Holland-Bosworth took an even more impressive 3 for 3, with Bertie Duncan, Hugh Buxton and William Holborow claiming the other wickets.

vs Akeley Wood
Maidwell 162 for 3 Akeley Wood 56 for 8

Maidwell were sent in by the visitors and smashed 162 for 3 in their 20 overs. Tom Henderson and Alex Palmer both scored 71 and put on 154 for the first wicket. Everyone bowled 2 overs in the Akeley innings and the visitors could only manage 56 for 8.
