As is traditional Form I went to the Peak District for the second weekend of the Autumn Term. This was a World Challenge weekend based at their Leadership Centre in Buxton. We had two nights camping complete with cooked breakfast and evening meal on trangia stoves. Saturday's activities were kayaking on the Peak Forest Canal and the chance to obtain level 1 certificates, and some challenging climbing at Windgather Rocks. The traditional game of Escape and Evasion was played after dark on the second evening. On the Sunday we had the long walk in the hills around the Goyt Valley which included lessons in lost team members, first aid and evacuation of casualties and how to navigate with map and compass. Everyone agreed that it was a very successful weekend and we were very well instructed and looked after by the World Challenge leaders. |
