v Spratton
Maidwell 10 Spratton 20
This was a tight match with Spratton scoring two tries in the last few minutes to win. It was keenly contested in the forward area with both sides playing some very good attacking rugby.
v The Grove
Maidwell 60 The Grove 0
This match was a little one sided but it was a good run out after a match only just the day before. Maidwell tried to introduce their backs a little more in this match. Although there were still some basic errors made it was nice to see the team try to develop other areas of their skills in a match situation.
v Wellingborough
Maidwell 15 Wellingborough 5
After three consecutive matches the Maidwell boys showed signs of being rather tired. To finish the trio of games with a win was testament to their developing stamina and determination to succeed.
v Stoneygate
Maidwell 10 Stoneygate 0
Another decent performance from the team this week. It was pleasing to see the back line beginning to get more of the ball than in previous matches and, with one or two players under the weather, it was good to see spirits lift when the game began.
v Bedford
Maidwell 10 Bedford 35
Against a much bigger team Maidwell again showed great courage in the forwards. With plenty of time spent in the opponents' half it was sad to see a number of breakaway tries being taken against them. Still tackling needs to be better if they are going to compete at a high standard.
v Akeley Wood
Maidwell 25 Akeley 15
This was a better performance and showed just how the team is beginning to work together. Some lazy forward play at times was compensated by some quite good work from the back line. A good win against a very quick opposition.
Mini Tournament
Maidwell 10 Beachborough 10 Playing two back to back matches meant the side had become slightly tired. Having taken the lead twice it was disappointing to draw the match but the opposition were a very decent team.
Maidwell 25 Bilton Grange 0 After the half term the team seemed very rusty and the performance in the whole was under par. Having said that the second half proved to be a decent performance and the forwards began to win the ball in ruck situations.
v Withan Hall
Maidwell 0 Witham 40
Not a great day for the team this one. Witham were much bigger and stronger and this took its toll on a much younger set of forwards. Some aggressive tackling wasn’t enough to have any impact on the opposition.
v Spratton Hall
Maidwell 20 Spratton 10
In what was the best match of the season in terms of two very evenly matched teams Maidwell began strongly and took a 20 – 0 lead into half time. Spratton that grabbed a couple of very good tries early into the second half putting the home side on the back foot. Maidwell hung on and tackled very well to eventually win the match.
A great game and satisfying end to the season. |
