Match Reports

v Swanbourne
Maidwell 153-8 Swanbourne 154-7

The team has much to learn.  A poor initial batting display then saw a good recovery and a poor finish. Maidwell were 20 runs shy of what they once could have achieved.  Poor fielding and bowling saw Swanbourne take advantage when batting. Putting on 90 for the first wicket always meant that Maidwell were going to struggle to in the match.  However as nerves crept in Swanbourne showed a few jitters but managed to win in the end.

v Wellingborough
Maidwell 113-7  Wellingborough 110-9

A good bowling and fielding display saw Maidwell restrict Wellingborough to what was thought to be a small total.  However after some early nerves and good bowling by the away team Maidwell were yet again making hard work to finish the second innings strongly.  Luckily some strong hitting down the order came to the rescue and Maidwell have now recorded their first victory of the season.

v Oundle
Maidwell 177-6 Oundle 102-9

A much improved batting performance this one, but too many loose shots by individuals led to a slight pressure situation.  The fielding display after the tea interval was poor with far too many dropped catches.  Although a good win it remains important to do the basic skills correctly.

vs Bedford
Maidwell 71 all out Bedford 240-6

Ouch! A very strong Bedford team certainly put Maidwell to the sword and severely outplayed us on all fronts.  Lessons should have been learned today regarding batting, bowling and definitely fielding. A lack of effort in the field and also missing valuable catches and at crucial stages.

vs Stoneygate
Maidwell 81 all out Stoneygate 82-6

Another poor batting display gave the match away long before it was eventually lost.  Experience in different situations is sadly lacking and this is something hard to put into a 10 match season I’m afraid.  Very poor display and the team should have done far better.

vs Spratton
Maidwell 174-5  Spratton 156-7

Big local derby as ever with both sides going hard for the win.  On a very hot day the match went almost to the last couple of overs.  Maidwell played better today and let’s hope that things are now changing in the team’s fortunes.

vs Great Houghton
Maidwell 101-4  Great Houghton  100 all out

On a green grass wicket Maidwell managed to bowl out the home side for what seemed a low score. Having struggled themselves on the pitch Maidwell managed to scrap their way over the line with some gutsy batting on what was a poor wicket.

vs Bilton Grange
Maidwell 101 all out Bilton Grange 142-5

A very poor batting display saw Maidwell easily beaten today. The score at one stage was 1-3 then 13-5 all top four batsmen got a zero today and it was not the most committed effort. Only Nick Bell and the late order managed to rescue some pride and get the score to 101.

vs Akeley Wood
Maidwell 77-3 Akeley Wood 73-8

A solid bowling and fielding performance restricted Akeley to a fairly small total. Aggressive batting display by the home side saw them to an easy victory.
