v Bedford
Maidwell 0 Bedford 4
It was a cold day for this, our first match of the season. Bedford played well and were clearly the better team. The game play was haphazard, but this is not surprising as it was the second occasion for both teams for playing on a pitch this year. We have plenty of skills to learn and practise: keeping our positions; passing the ball to our team only; keeping possession of the ball, and working as a team. Our next match is in 2 weeks so we should have the time to increase in competence.
v Wellingborough
Maidwell 0 Wellingborough 6
It was a rainy and muddy afternoon at Wellingborough for a fixture which turned out to be a very tough match for our boys. They did well to keep on going right up until the end. Despite our best efforts to get the ball up the field to attack and, particularly in the second half of the game, to keep a solid defence, we were consistently out-played by Wellingborough. Milo Eadie kept his presence of mind well as captain and Piers Burgess deserves a mention for being a very good goalkeeper.
v Akeley Wood
Maidwell 0 Akeley Wood 9
Despite a strong Maidwell side and some tenacious play, we were convincingly out-played by the opposition. Rufus Hall played very well up front as our centre forward. Freddie Wilson never let up his efforts up and down the right wing. Milo, our captain, continued to skipper his side with great grace, especially in the face of this season's statistics. Piers Burgess was brilliant in goal and put his face on the line again and again to grab the ball. Edmund Sugarman, Freddie Allhusen and George Mitchell kept up a good defense and repeatedly thwarted numerous attacks. All in all, our lads played well.
