v Bedford Maidwell 1 Bedford 0
This was a turgid affair made worse by a lack of seriousness from the opposition. We tried hard, but were very rusty in front of goal. Altogether we had about 30 shots on goal, but only managed one goal, scored by George Broughton just before half-time. Boys were getting in the way of others and it is clear that we need to work on positional awareness over the next week.
v Stoneygate
Maidwell 6 Stoneygate 1
A much better performance against a team that matched us well in the early stages of the match on a very big pitch. We shared possession in the first half, but managed the only goal from Ben Clarke after amazing work from Alexander Zico Webb. Edward Fenner made some great saves to keep the score at 1-0. The second half saw us abandon midfield altogether and the extra pressure saw us score 5 further goals through Webb, Olu Olowogboye (2, inc. a pen) and Nick "Micky Quinn" Bell.
v Wellingborough
Maidwell 1 Wellingborough 4
I knew this would be a long afternoon from the lack of urgency from the boys before the match. The two teams were euqally matched at the start, but we soon found ourselves 0-3 down through some sloppy defending and silly errors. We managed to pull a goal back before half-time through Alexander Webb. The start of the second half was excellent and we had all the possession but could not score. We then conceded another goal and our heads dropped. The opposition were the much better team throughout the match and were it not for Edward Fenner's shot stopping, it could have been a lot worse.
v Stoneygate Maidwell 2 Stoneygate 3
This was an interesting game with two evenly matched teams. We had a mixed team due to the 1st Hockey fixture and Stoneygate brought half of their first team. We started well, but gave away an early penalty. At half time we have twice equalised through James Phillips and George Whitcombe. The second half was even, but broke up somewhat due to both teams going for the win. Sadly we fell asleep in defence and Stoneygate scored the winning goal. Even so, we had plenty of chance throughout the half.
v Grace Dieu Maidwell 5 Grace Dieu 4 Our first firxture against Grace Dieu produced a pleasing result. The performance was good in places but we tried too hard at times and didn't play the simple passes. Also our defence was woeful at times. Still we took our chances well and the goals came from Ignacio, Nick Bell, Edmund Wells, Toby Duncan and Olu.
v Akeley Wood
Maidwell 4 Akeley Wood 5
We took the lead with a good strike from Max Weatherby but through sloppy defending and not winning much ball in midfield we found ourselves 4-1 down with ten minutes to go. We staged a miraculous comeback with goals from Guy Seddon, Nick Bell and a penalty from Ignacio Danobeitia. With a minute to go, we pushed up and went for the win, only to be caught in defence and Akeley scored with the last kick of the match.
v Wellingborough
Maidwell 2 Wellingborough 2 This was a game of all-out attack from both teams. We had so many chances on goal, but failed to find the net and the opposition posed a very physical challenge. At half-time we were losing 0-1 but were much the better team in the second half, until we then conceded another goal. Thankfully we pressed forward and scored twice in the second half from Toby Duncan and Ignacio Danobeitia.
