House Convoy 2008
Convoy is a traditional Maidwell game played by the whole school once
a year. It is based on the Second World War Atlantic convoys and the aim
is for merchantmen (younger boys) to score points for their team by
completing circuits of all 5 ports without being sunk by submarines.
The key to success is to have well organised frigates to protect against
the submarines, but frigates have to beware of the aircraft carriers.
Of course a merchantmen may be disguised as a 'Q Ship'! The game is
played in one of the school fields on a Sunday afternoon, and this year
Pine and Beech were once again the winning team. It was a cold and overcast day but plenty of running around soon warmed everyone up. This year we had the added excitement of a BBC Radio Northampton reporter.
